Alejandro Fernando Amenábar Cantos (born March 31, 1972 in Santiago), Spanish-Chilean film director, screenwriter and composer. Amenábar is born in Chile, the son of a Chilean father and a Spanish mother. In 1973, the family escaped from the military dictator Augusto Pinochet and fled to Spain. Amenábar grows in Madrid. Amenabar, who started his studies in communication science at Universidad Complutense University in Madrid, soon returned to film art. For example, he has received awards for his many short films, La cabeza. His first film The Facility was awarded the Goya film award in 1997. American actor Tom Cruise receives the rights to his second film, Abre los ojos, and takes his new version four years later called Vanilla Sky.
