The Penrose ladder or impossible staircase is an impossible object created by Lionel Penrose and his son, Roger Penrose . The stair-shaped variation of the Penrose triangle is accepted. In this illusion, a staircase (or descending) with 90 degree turns is depicted as 2-dimensional. When a person is imagined to have climbed up these stairs, there appears to be an eternal cycle in which there is no upswing or descent. This ladder, which is clearly impossible in three-dimensional space, is called the Penrose ladder.
